Genika Astro now opened to external developments
With Genika 18.104.22.168, it is possible for you to integrate you own image processing library. Genika can call two external DLL : one for images to be displayed and the other for all images acquired.
Two Visual Studio 2015 C# templates with examples are provided. Those DLL are instanciated and you can use you own windows, methods, members and threads. You can return to Genika a modified image, and/or just copy it to make you own processing using any language and any image processing library.
The x64 example shows a multithreaded FFT processing using OpenCV. From the C# managed DLL, you may call any external DLL including unmanaged C++.
The limit is your imagination !
Autofocus now in Genika Astro
We have introduced in Genika Astro 2.13 a new scoring of the focus of the video stream with a low sensitivity to turbulence.
It is possible to use it manually with the new score that adds to the previous microcontrast analysis, and completly automatically with a real autofocus feature when an ASCOM absolute focuser is connected.
This is the first time a real autofocus is implemented in a high speed astronomy acquisiiton software !

Night Seeing Monitor
After two years of development, we are glad to annouce the launch of our Night Seeing Monitor. Dedicated to long exposure astrophotography, the NSM measures both the seeing FWHM in ArcSec and the stellar scintillation.
This system, conceived upon scientific papers, measures precisely Polaris position jitter several hundred times per second on a matricial sensor. Unlike other systems that relie on TDI reading on a CCD sensor, the fast E2V matricial sensor provides a far better sensitivity to the star movement. Unlike a DIMM, is doesn’t require motorized tracking ; it just have to be position on a solid support such as a concrete wall.
It is easy to install, operates automatically and requires low maintenance. And last but not least, it is the less expensive system available.
The Timebox is an innovative and affordable time base that allows precise image timestamping from Genika Trigger and Genika Astro applications.
It is designed to provide time sensitive applications with a reference Stratum 1 time base from the GPS network. It can be used for example for precise image timestamping in astronomy applications as asteroid transit in front of a star.
Airylab’s HaT solar telescope has been reviewed by BBC’s Sky at Night in issue #125.
They did enjoy it, mentioning that “Of all solar setups we’ve tested over the years it is among the easiest to use”. S@N also did an amazing 360° model of the HaT.
Airylab launches the first of the shelf Solar Scintillation Monitor
Airylab’s Solar Scintillation Monitor (SSM) is the first daylight seeing analysis system for the amateur solar observer. This device allows you to determine instantaneously the seeing value in ArcSec at your specific location by daylight for solar observation and imaging. The SSM has been designed for three main applications:
– Help you to find the best observation site for solar visual observation and imaging. The small handheld form factor makes it very easy to bring to potential locations for a quick survey.
– Determine the best seeing time for your observation location. Used with its data acquisition software, you may collect data over the day to see the general seeing evolution over time.
– Directly command image acquisition when used with Genika Astro. In that case, Genika Astro connects to the SSM directly and trigs acquisition from the camera when the seeing goes below a predefined value. For more information about this topic, please refer to Genika Astro user manual.
